How this site makes money
Links to shops. That is all of it. There are no ads, no sponsored posts, no paid placements, and nothing on this site is behind a payment.
The short version
Some of the links on the gear list, the week pages and the hospital bag checklist go to retailers. If one of those relationships is active and you buy something after following the link, the retailer may pay us a small commission. The price you pay is exactly the same either way. If a commission were ever to cost you money, the link would not be here.
What it does not change
Which items are on the list, what is marked essential, and the order everything appears in. Those are decided by what a newborn actually needs and by which purchases go wrong when they arrive late, and they were written before any commercial relationship existed. Several things on the list, including the advice to call your insurer about a breast pump rather than buy one, earn nothing at all.
There is a whole section on the gear page telling you what to skip. That is the test of whether a list like this is honest, so it stays.
The technical bit, for anyone checking
Every outbound merchant link on this site is generated by one lookup table. There are
no hand written merchant URLs anywhere in the code. That means the site can run with
plain, untracked links, which is how it launched, and it means a relationship can be
switched on or off in one place rather than by editing pages. Outbound commercial links
carry rel="sponsored".
Retailers
The retailers linked from this site are Albee Baby, Doona, Tiny Land, Carter's, Coco Moon Hawai'i and Amazon. birthdate.baby is a participant in the Amazon Services LLC Associates Program, an affiliate advertising program designed to provide a means for sites to earn advertising fees by advertising and linking to Amazon.com. As an Amazon Associate we earn from qualifying purchases.
Medical independence
No retailer has any influence over the dating maths, the scan windows, the week pages or anything else on this site, and none of it is medical advice in the first place. If that ever changes it will be written here first.
